Labnaha is situated in the Yucatan Peninsula, more specifically in QUINTANA ROO where the biggest underwater caves of the world are situated.
To understand why these systems are particularly situated in this zone, it is necessary to knowthe geological history of the area.
The Yucatan Peninsula was formed in the Cenozoic era approximately 65.000.000 years ago. The ground of Yucatan was a chorale reef, and when the level of the water went receded the peninsula emerged composed in its majority of rock formed by the skeletons of the animals that formed this reef.
During the era of the Pleistocene and the Holocene more rock sediment was accumulated in the coast increasing its height.
The Yucatan Peninsula is composed in its majority of limestone rock, that is a rock of great porosity that allows the water to circulate freely through it. Consequently most of the water runs below the surface.
The size of the Yucatan Peninsula is 190,000 square kilometres and it’s composed by three states Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
Due to the different times that these caves where formed we can find in them a true geologic history with fossilized remains of chorales, mollusk and a great variety of animals inlaid on the limestone rock.
By that reason a diving in these caves is a true trip into the past.
The word cenote comes from the Mayan word "Dzonot" and that means sacred well. By definition it is an underground cavity that contains water permanently.
Because these caves were dry during the glacial times, we found a great variety of formation that is unique to these areas.
Due to the size of the Yucatan Peninsula there is a infinity of places where to be able to dive in caves, from caves where the depth is 3 meters to caves needing a mixture of gases to be able to make it. Presently there have been documented circa 3500 cenotes in the area, but here, we all know that that number just represents a small amount of real cenotes in the area.
The places where we do our immersions are too numerous to list.
Just to give an example we have listed our most popular choices to dive:
SISTEMA ABEJAS
SISTEMA CANDELABRO
SISTEMA CAMILO
SISTEMA CARWASH
SISTEMA CHAC MOOL
SISTEMA CHEMUYIL
CENOTES DOS OJOS
SISTEMA ESCONDIDO
SISTEMA MINOTAURO
SISTEMA MUNDO ESCONDIDO
SISTEMA NARANJAL
SISTEMA NOHOCH NAH CHICH
SISTEMA OX BEL HA
SISTEMA PONDEROSA
SISTEMA SAC AKTUN
SISTEMA TAJ MAHAL
SISTEMA TEMPLE OF DOOM
SISTEMA TORTUGA
TAK BE HA
SISTEMA X TABAY
SAC AKTUN
As you can see this list represents just a fraction of the great variety of systems that we have in this area that creates a true paradise for the diver.
Aside from all these systems, Labnaha counts on an estate of 200 hectares with a great amount of cenotes. The team of exploration of Labnaha had interconnected most of them, with many more still to explore.
The motto of Labnaha is an old motto used by the explorers: “SI NO VAS, NO LO SABRAS” that means "IF YOU DO NOT GO, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW".
For the technical diving, the Mayan Riviera has a magnificent Coral reef, which is the second great of the world, it begins in the Yucatan Peninsula and finishes in Honduras.
